Predeceased by her parents: James and Elsie Sutcliffe; her sister Mary Pullinger; and her best friend Patricia Dunk.
Leaving to mourn her nephew Philip Pullinger, family and friends.
Dorothy was born on September 24, 1929 in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England. After finishing high school at the age of 16, and graduating as a State Registered Nurse, she worked as a staff nurse and midwife in England for 6 years. Dorothy then moved to St. Anthony, Newfoundland where she was a public health nurse with the Grenfell Mission for 2 years.
In 1972 she attended Dalhousie University graduating with a Bachelor of Nursing Degree. Subsequently at St. Francis Xavier University graduating with a Master’s Degree in Adult Education. She was promoted to the Supervisor of Public Health Nurses on the northern peninsula of Newfoundland and southern Labrador. Later to retire from the Dr. Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony.
Upon retirement at the age of 60, Dorothy travelled the world with her best friend Patricia and relocated to Mount Pearl where she became the proud owner of the most adorable little Shih Tzu, “Little Miss Muffett”. Dorothy was very active and loved God’s creation! She was an avid bird watcher, loved walking Little Miss Muffett through Bowring Park and around Octagon Pond, and at least once a week would jump in her car and drive down to watch the waves roll in on Topsail Beach.
A special thank you to Yvonne and the caring staff of Meadow Creek Retirement Center in Paradise. Throughout her stay Dorothy had the opportunity to lead in exercise class, manage the store, and ministered at the Sunday Morning worship services for nearly 10 years. Dorothy always thanked the Lord for bringing her to Meadow Creek where she enjoyed her golden years.
Visitation will be at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl on Monday, July 21, 2025 from 7:00 -9:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 2:00 pm from Barrett’s Mount Pearl Chapel, with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
