Dick Cox

Dick D. Cox, 95, of Belleville, IL, born on August 17, 1930, in Keytesville, MO, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at his residence in Belleville, IL.

Dick was Owner Operator of Cox & Sons, Inc. He was a Union Operating Engineer out Of Local 520 until he retired at the age of 80. Dick was one of the best operators of all heavy equipment and it was amazing to watch! He was an extremely generous man and a devout Christian of the Pentecostal Faith. He and Shirley would be married for 75 years this Sept. 15. He loved her and took care of her like no other. Dick talked to everyone, and most that met him, loved him. He loved a great joke and his eyes always smiled.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Jefferson and Byda Lee Cox (nee Ellis); and ten siblings, Tommy Eugene Cox, Ernest Lee Cox, John Franklin Cox, Ilean Ehrhardt, Eleanor Calvert, Margaret Maxine Cox, Zoe Anne Cox, and Joe Ann Cox.

Left to cherish Dick’s memory is his beloved wife, Shirley Mae Cox (nee Calvert) of Belleville, IL; their three children, Sue (Tom) DeMond of O’Fallon, IL, DeWayne Cox of Belleville, IL, Keith (Kim) Cox of Carbondale, IL; two sisters, Peggy Lou Domerese, Patty Josephine Reese; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday August 30, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. at Schildknecht Funeral Home; 301 S. Lincoln Ave., O’Fallon, IL 62269.

Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens; 5000 N. Illinois St., Fairview Heights, IL 62208.
