Dicie was born on August 4, 1931, in the Denney’s Gap community of Wayne County, Kentucky, to the late John Maxwell and Dovie Ethel Morrow Maxwell. A devoted Christian, she was a longtime member of Dixie Bend Baptist Church, where she faithfully shared her love for the Lord and was a witness to all she met.

Throughout her life, Dicie found joy in the simple pleasures—embroidering intricate patterns, tending to her garden, and fishing whenever the fish were biting. Her kindness, strength, and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Glenn Phillips; her brothers, Henry, Benny, Johnny, Jeff, and Virgil Maxwell; her sisters, Artie, Pauline, Maggie, Dillie, and Ella; a son-in-law, Roy Whitehead; and three great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving children: sons Lowell Phillips (Kay), Gary Phillips (Donna), and Allen Phillips (Sherry); daughters Hazel Whitehead, Wilma Jean Whitehead (Glenn), Kathy Spurlock (Jeff), Rita Phillips, and Juanita Sisk (Joseph Michael); eighteen cherished grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren who brought her great pride and joy. She also leaves behind special nieces and nephews Audrey Waters, Lois Matthews, Larry Maxwell, Norma Bennett, Wanda Jonda and many more that she thought of her own. She always left a trail of love and was “Mommy” to a lot of kids throughout her life.

Dicie’s life was a testimony of faith, love, and perseverance. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.

Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Dicie Phillips.
