Daniel Howell

Daniel Jerome Howell, known to most as Dan, aged 46, passed away peacefully at home, with his children and family members at his side, on April 30, 2025, following a unrelenting four-year battle with colorectal cancer. Daniel, his children, and his childrens’ mother (Amanda Howell), resided together in Lehi from November 2024 until his passing.

Born on October 7, 1978, in San Francisco, California, Daniel was the beloved son of Rebekah Lynn Ludeman (stepfather John Ludeman) and Donald Howel (Christina Howell), and is the oldest of five siblings: Jonathan Howell, Lisa (Cy) Durfee, Brandon (Carrie) Howell, and Kristine (Brandon) Childers.

He graduated from Chandler High School in Arizona and later moved to Utah. Daniel was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in Cebu, Philippines, from October 1999 to 2001.

Above all else, Daniel was a devoted father to his children, Garrett Daniel (15), and daughter, Katherine Scarlett (13). He viewed his children as his greatest contributions to this world, and he made every decision with them in mind. His love and pride for them were boundless.

Daniel had an enduring passion for fitness, a commitment that fueled his strength throughout his illness. A true fighter, he defied the odds time and again, leaving even his medical team in awe until the very end.

In addition to being a walking encyclopedia of music and movies, Daniel was also a talented guitarist who delighted Garrett and Katie with silly, made-up songs. His love for the movie Jaws was legendary, and from the time his children were toddlers, he often told them his life goal was to ride a great white shark.

Daniel’s warmth, humor, and generous spirit touched the lives of many, including his cherished nieces, nephews, extended families and countless friends, all of whom will remember him with deep love and gratitude.

A dinner to celebrate Daniel’s life will be held on Saturday, May 17th,  at 6:30 pm, in the cultural hall at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hardman Farms 4th Ward meetinghouse located at 710 North Pearl Drive, Lehi, Utah. All family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor the remarkable life he lived.

Daniel’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him — a legacy of resilience, love, and joy that will not be forgotten. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Intermountain Hospice for making it possible for Daniel to remain at home, and to Meagan Brewer for her extraordinary, round-the-clock care during his final week of life.

Garrett and Katie would like to honor their father with a legacy bench placed at Utah’s Hogle Zoo. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the donation goal of $5,000 would be appreciated (venmo: Amanda-Howell-20).
