Irish eyes were smiling in Heaven as they welcomed Daniel A. Enos home the morning of September 27, 2025. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.
Dan was born on April 2, 1950, the youngest of three sons of Fred and Helen Enos. He was raised in Oriskany, NY, a proud Redskin for life. It was in the halls of OCS that he met Elaine Kernan, who became his devoted wife of 54 years. Together they raised their family, working hard and playing hard. Travel, music, laughter, and a healthy dose of friendly competition were the family values they passed on to their children. Most cherished of all are the memories made with their friends and family at camp on Kayuta Lake over the past 40 years.
Dan also instilled the value of active community membership through service. He served his country in the Army from 1969 to 1971. Throughout his life he volunteered for a variety of organizations including the Oriskany Fire Department, Little League, School Board, and Zoning Board. He was also a member of the Boonville Knights of Columbus and Masonic Lodge #799. A devoted catholic, he served as a eucharistic minister at St. Patrick’s Church in Forestport.
Dan was a carpenter by trade, first working for the Carpenters Local 747, then as an independent business owner building and remodeling homes. The highlight of his time as a business owner was employing local students with aspirations for a career in carpentry. No student was more important to him, nor more devoted than his “other son”, Ray Wolanin. He continued educating the next generation, finishing his career with the Apprenticeship Training Program for Empire State Highway Contractors Association.
Surviving besides his loving wife, Elaine, is a daughter, Melissa Enos (Bill McDonald); two sons, Eric Enos (Michele) and Ronald Enos; grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, R.J., Amayah, and Alivia; his brother, Ronald Enos (Edie); the entire Kernan Clan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Jane Enos.
Dan’s family would to express a heartfelt thank you to Hospice and Palliative Care for their wonderful care and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 4 at 11:00am at St. Peter’s Church, 200 N. James St., Rome NY 13440. Interment will take place in Oriskany Cemetery. There are no calling hours. A celebration of life will be held following interment at 1:30pm at the Oriskany American Legion, 7908 Rt. 69, Oriskany NY 13424. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dan’s memory to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd.
