Daniel Curtin, affectionately known as Donie to many, was born on June 29, 1941, in Shanballymore, County Cork, Ireland, to Margret (Roche) Curtin and David Curtin.
Daniel was husband to Peggy Curtin and beloved father of Maureen (Rachel), Dennis (Diana), Michael, and Aidan (Betsy). He was a cherished grandfather to Connor, Brian, Liam, Aidan, Madeleine, Sean, Declan, and Grace. He is survived by his siblings Nellie Sheedy, Betty O’Connor, Pat Curtin, and Gerry Curtin.
He was predeceased by his siblings Margarite, Larry, David, Mick, John, Mary O’Sullivan, Richard, and Tom.
In 1961, Daniel immigrated to the United States and began working as a concrete laborer, where he was known for his tireless work ethic and for fighting to improve workers’ conditions. He was promoted to serve as shop steward and elected to numerous leadership positions within Local 18A. After three decades working in construction, he spent another three decades as a doorman in Local 32BJ. He took great satisfaction in helping other immigrants—and their children—find and keep work.
Together with his wife Peggy, Daniel raised a family of four in the Bronx, sharing with them his love of sport and music. Over the years, he kept up with technology so as to keep up with nieces, nephews, new friends, and old neighbors around the world. He will be remembered for his fairness, generosity, tenacity, wit, and, above all, his deep love for his family.
