Glenn “Dale” Murrell, of Sevierville, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the age of 87. He was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great grandfather. Dale’s life was a testament to his unwavering love and support for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion.
A lifelong resident of Sevier County, Dale was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Sevierville. Dale honorably served his country in the United States Army, was a dedicated fifty-plus-year member of the Freemasons and served in the early years of the Sevier County Volunteer Fire Department.
After a 35-year career as an electrician with Alcoa, Dale retired to spend more time with his wife Ruth, and their family. Nature held a special place in Dale’s heart, and upon retirement, he embraced his passion for fishing, honing his skills in the numerous rivers and lakes of East Tennessee. In addition to his love of fishing, Dale liked to take scenic drives and attended car shows with his wife Ruth.
Dale was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 52 years Ruth W. Murrell, father; Glenn A. Murrell, mother; Ruth M Murrell, sister; Vida Finchum, and sister; Norma Cate.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Michael and Kathy Murrell; Grandchildren Lisa Gardner (Charles), Jeremey Massie (Stephanie), and Jacob Murrell; Great grandchildren Jayden, Annabelle, and Sebastion; Brother-in-laws Thurman Cate, David Watson (Betty), and Bob Williams; Sister-in-laws Clara Watson Killian, and Carolyn Watson; Special niece Brenda Clabough Russell, and numerous other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends 4-7 pm Friday, October 17, 2025, at Atchley Funeral Home Sevierville. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, with Rev. Scott Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.
