Cynthia Elvira Vincent Alligood, a cherished member of the community of Hastings-on-Hudson, NY for over 60 years, passed away peacefully on July 13th, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness and grace. Cynthia was born on June 26, 1935 in Lawrenceville, VA and graduated from Dunbar High School in Washington, D.C., where she developed her lifelong passion for music and singing. She studied medical records in St. Louis, MO and after some time in Inkster, MI, in 1965 she and her family settled in Hastings.
Cynthia’s faith guided her, and she found a spiritual home at Grace Episcopal Church. Through six decades of worship, service, and fellowship, Cynthia touched many lives, offering a listening ear, beautiful voice, and helping hand to all. Her commitment to faith and congregation stood as a beacon of compassion, reflecting the best of her generous spirit. After raising her children, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Iona College and held various positions, including Director of Medical Records at St. Johns Riverside Hospital in Yonkers, NY.
Cynthia’s greatest source of pride and joy was her family. She was a devoted and loving mother to her children Donna (Curtis), Craig, Debra, and Douglass (Eva). Her care and wisdom shaped the lives of her children and four grandchildren: Andra, Angela, Jordan, and Leah. She is also survived by her siblings Mary and Aaron and former husband Douglass Alligood. Her siblings Robert and Patricia predeceased her. Family gatherings were filled with laughter, stories, dancing and Cynthia’s unmistakable flair.
Cynthia’s life was a testament to the power of faith, family, and community, and her spirit lives on in the memories and hearts of all who knew and loved her. A celebration of Cynthia’s life will take place at Grace Episcopal Church, July 26th at 10 am.
