Curtis Todd

Curtis Lee “Curt” Todd, age 62, of Madison, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born January 1, 1963 in Madison and was the loving grandson of the late Nancy Ella Todd. He was raised by his mother Cheri Todd-Thorne and his stepfather, Richard Thorne.

During his early years, Curt lived in Madison, New Albany, Indiana and Louisville. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps through the delayed entry program in 1980 and was assigned to the 3rd Battalion 10th Marines. He graduated in 1981 from Thomas Jefferson High School in Louisville, and following graduation, left for Paris Island in South Carolina for basic training. He was then stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina from 1981 to 1985 where he was a field radio operator. Curt served two tours in Beirut, Lebanon, from 1982 to 1983 and 1983 to 1984, and participated in Urgent Fury, the liberation of Grenada in 1984. He was a sharpshooter and was awarded the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal for his military service. He was honorably discharged from the Marines in 1987, proud of his service and to have been a Marine.

On October 3, 1983, Curt was united in marriage to the love of his life, Cathy Patterson. They shared many happy years together. Cathy always said, “we got married and he got the cruise for the honeymoon.”

After the military, Curt worked as a security officer at the Jefferson Proving Ground and for Wolohan Lumber from 1985 to 1992, both in Madison. From 1992 to 2004, he worked at the Madison State Hospital as a qualified medical attendant. In 2004, he began working at Grote Manufacturing and left due to illness in 2021.

Curtis was diagnosed in March 2021 with liver cancer and chronic kidney disease. In June of 2023, he received the best gift of his life, a liver transplant. The Todd family wishes to thank Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Vanderbilt Transplant, Tennessee Valley VA, and Robley Rex VA Medical Center for all of the exceptional care.

Curt had many hobbies, including cars, music, playing cards, watching Sci Fi movies, conspiracy theories, puzzles, family time, spending time with his grandchildren, and homemade ice cream, and truly loved being called Pawpaw.

In addition to his wife, his surviving family includes two sons: Christopher and his wife, Alaina, and Chauncey Todd, all of Madison; his mother: Cheri Todd-Thorne of Madison; four grandchildren: Peyton Cheek, Maylee Todd, Emma Grace Todd, all of Madison, and a grandchild to be born in February 2026; one brother: Master Sargent Danny Todd (U.S. Army, Retired) of Lillington, North Carolina; two sisters: Yvon O’Banion and her husband, Yarnelle, and Marlene Moon and her husband Eugene, all of Madison; his mother in law, Nellie Patterson of Madison; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Chris and Bill Miller of Antioch, Tennessee; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
