Corazon S. Gumila peacefully passed away to be with her husband Romeo on September 28, 2025. Cora and Romy were dedicated to ensuring the best education for their children to become successful contributors to society. They were committed to their community as leaders and provided unyielding service for the Cagayan Circle associated with The Rizal Center, Philippine Lion’s Club, Devotees of Our Lady of Piat, San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila of St. Padre Pio Chicago Parish, and La Pieta Chapters in Illinois, to name a few. Participated in numerous international medical missions and connected the Filipino community within multiple associations in Illinois. They had a joyful spirit and enjoyed celebrating with their loved ones, family, and friends. They shared their love of music with their grandchildren by deejaying and singing. Everyone loved Romy’s singing but only Romy loved Cora’s singing. No one can ever deny the love they had for each other as they optimize the definition of “soul mates.” They were a beloved couple of nearly 63 years. Devoted mother of Janet, Erwin (Ken), Jeanne (Michael), Jennifer (Greg), and Paul (Jin). Cherished grandmother (aka. Wowa) of Kassandra (Carissa), Elisa (Ryan), Matthew, Colin (Dasha), Jacob, Maia, Joshua (Aimee), Amelia, Penelope, and Parker. Proud great grandmother of Anya. Visitation Friday, October 17, 3-8pm at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home 6150 N Cicero Ave, Chicago, IL 60646. Mass Saturday, October 18, 2025 10am at St. Padre Pio Parish 5601 N California Ave, Chicago, IL 60659. Interment Maryhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials in Cora’s memory would be appreciated to Chicago Canine Rescue.
