Constance “Connie” M. Barker passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025, at the age of 91. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, determination, and unwavering love for her family.
Born on March 24, 1934, Connie’s life was marked by her deep sense of purpose and hard work. She began her professional journey as a secretary and, through decades of perseverance, rose to become Vice President and Treasurer at Barker, Heslip, and Bradshaw—a testament to her formidable intelligence and dedication in the insurance industry.
Connie believed deeply in the value of education. Despite leaving school after the 10th grade to help support her family, she never abandoned her dream of higher learning. At age 50, she proudly earned her degree from Empire State College, inspiring her children and grandchildren by example.
Family was the foundation of Connie’s life. She was married to Peter Barker for 40 devoted years, and together they nurtured a blended family built on love and mutual respect. She is survived by five beloved children: her daughters Sharon (Jerry) Deming and Cindy Bradshaw from her first marriage to Robert Bradshaw, and Peter’s daughters MaryLynne (Tom) Casey, Susan (Tom Donnarumma) Barker, and Martha (Forrest Carroll) Roherty, whom she embraced as her own. Connie was a cherished grandmother to 16 grandchildren and a doting great-grandmother to 12 great-grandchildren.
Those who knew Connie will remember her strong will and spirited opinions. She loved a good hockey game, was a lifelong fan of the Buffalo Bills, and cherished quiet moments fishing at Loughborough Lake in Canada. From a young age, Connie’s faith was an important part in her life and for 40 years she was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. In her later years, Connie found joy and companionship in her dog Lure, a special gift for her 80th birthday.
Connie lived with grace and grit. Her life story is one of rising to challenges, lifting others up, and finding beauty in everyday joys. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
A Celebration of Connie’s life will be held on August 9, 2025 at 10 am at St. Thomas Episcopal Church (2000 Highland Avenue). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the St. Thomas Episcopal Church Endowment Fund in her honor.
