Coleen Schaffer

On May 18, 2025, the world bid farewell to a loving soul, Coleen Faye Schaffer. Born on September 1, 1934, in Bluff City, Kansas, Coleen was a beacon of strength, wit, and dedication. Known for her humble nature and supportive spirit, she touched many lives with her kindness and love. She spent her professional years managing a medical office for Dr. Greg Barrete’s Office, where her dedication and commitment were highly esteemed. Retirement came in 2001, but her energy never waned.

Coleen was an avid reader of romance novels and loved spending time in nature, especially bird watching. Her love for the outdoors was only surpassed by her love for her family. Coleen’s love for her grandbabies was especially profound, and she was a particularly dedicated grandmother. Her cheerful sense of humor and ornery spirit were contagious, bringing joy to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. As a testament to her caring nature, she spent time volunteering with the Red Cross to assist those affected by natural disasters.

Coleen leaves behind a loving family: her sons Tyson and Terry Hughes; her daughters Vicki Graham and Christie Bridges; her grandchildren Shianna Hughes, Shane Hughes, Tyanna Middendorf, Madison Hughes, Matthew Hughes, Monica Carter, Jenny Hester, Andrew Graham, and Janetta Mathewson; and several adoring great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Rose Gerberding, and her husband, Don Schaffer.

A graveside service for Coleen will be held on Friday, 23 May 2025, at 2:00 pm at St. Paul Evangelical Church Cemetery, 1180 Southeast 30 Road, Bluff City, Kansas, 67018.

Memorial donations may be made in Coleen’s memory to the American Red Cross. Donations may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
