Claude Donald “Donnie” Ross, 80, of Hannibal, MO, passed away at 2:41 PM, Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia, MO.

The family will host a life celebration at a later date.

Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, Mo.

Donnie was born August 9, 1945, in Hannibal, MO to Claude Ross and Mary Glascock Herring.

Survivors include his three daughters, Leah Flynn, Erin Selmon, and Mary Michelle; brother, John Herring; 13 grandchildren, Lauren, Sydni, Cayse, Shelby, Evan, Rylee, Halley, Colin, Skylee, Mazie, Michael, Jayme, and Cliff; and 20 great grandchildren. He is also survived by niece, Jessica Herring Burton; and best friend, Fred Smith.

Donnie was preceded in death by his father, Claude Ross; mother, Mary Glasock Herring; stepfather and man who raised him, Bill Herring; and one son, Christopher Shane Ross.

Donnie proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy.

Professionally, Donnie retired as a Local Union Pipe Fitter.

Donnie owned and operated CD and Dogs Saloon in Hannibal, MO.

In his younger years during high school, Donnie was an avid football player and ran track, where he broke a school record.

Donnie was simple man that enjoyed the simple things in life. Donnie was a Chicago Bears fan and could be found cheering them on each year. Known for making the best chili and lasagna, Donnie jumped at every opportunity to cook for his family and friends. Donnie was social and had a very outgoing and mischievous personality. A couple of Donnie’s favorites was to join friends at Finns or Logues to enjoy breakfast or lunch and spending time with grandson, Evan. Most of all, Donnie treasured his family and will be deeply missed.
