Obituary – CHESTER “CHET” MORRIS 1932 – April 22, 2025

On April 22, 2025, Chester Morris, 92, passed away peacefully at his home of 55 years in Yuba City. Chester was born in Cook County, Chicago, Illinois to Charles and Lucille Morris, the youngest of three boys. After his father’s death in 1944, he moved with his mother to Modesto, California. He attended Roosevelt Junior High followed by Modesto High School. He joined the Air Force on December 7, 1951, and trained as a Russian Linguist by the service. He served in Korea with the 15th Radio Squadron Mobile. After discharge on December 7, 1955, he attended and graduated from Modesto Junior College. After spending one semester at the University of California at Berkeley, he enrolled in Hastings College of the Law in 1957 on the GI Bill of Rights and graduated in June 1961. From law school Chester took a position with the law firm of Rich Fuidge Dawson and Marsh in 1961 where he practiced until his retirement in 2015, at the age of 83. Chester was a past President of the Yuba Sutter Chamber of Commerce,

Sutter County Republican Central Committee, and Working Cow Horse Breeders of Yuba Sutter Counties. He also served as the President of the California Reined Cow Horse Association. Chester’s hobbies included hunting and fishing, love of horses and restoring older cars. He was proud of his family of which the law firm was a part, and the friends he made in Yuba City. In law related areas Chester was past President of the Yuba Sutter Bar Association, past President of the Sacramento Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, past President of the Association of Defense Council of Northern California, and a member of the American College of Trial Attorneys. Chester was named as “Top Attorney” by the San Francisco Magazine and Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers Magazine from 2005-2010. Chester was a proud and resolute member of the Church of Jesus Christ of

Latter-day Saints. Chester stated he had the pleasure of knowing three lovely ladies whom he shared memorable portions of his life: Carol Mae Morris, mother of his children (predeceased); Maryann Morris, former wife (predeceased); and Patricia Wiederspan. Chester is survived by sons Drew (Sharon) Morris and Kris Morris, stepson Jerrod Iverson, grandchildren Clark (Michelle) Morris, Cedar Morris, Joslyn (Thomas) Beile, Skyler (Jefferson) Morris, and five great-grandchildren. The family extends its sincere and heartfelt gratitude for the compassion, friendship and care Chester received from his loved ones, amazing caregivers, kind neighbors, and dear friends.
