Charles Honeycutt

Charles Milford Honeycutt, born January 13, 1929, in Tishomingo, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025, at the age of 96. A man of intellect, dedication, and deep love for his family, Charles lived a life marked by hard work, adventures, and an unwavering devotion to his beloved wife, Rose Mary.

Charles was the son of William Dempsey and Elijah Jane Honeycutt, and one of thirteen children—six boys and seven girls, as he fondly joked, “six boys, six girls, and a scorekeeper.” He was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings: brothers Ed, Harvey, Melvin, Presley, and Arthur; and sisters Mary Lou Honeycutt, Lois Kendrick, Lillian Walker, Bertha Ferrell, Ester Honeycutt, Retha Goss, and Jeanne Duncan.

Charles was a proud father to Susan Mattison and Mike Honeycutt, who, along with his cherished grandson Nathan Mattison, sadly passed away before him; a loving grandfather to Bryan, Kyle, and Daniel; a devoted great-grandfather to five girls; and a proud great-great-grandfather to Mary Gatlin Roberts. He held a strong appreciation to have five living generations during his lifetime. He also held a special place in his heart for Beth Guthrie who, along with her husband Jim, thoughtfully helped her mother care for him in his last years.

On May 27, 1978, Charles married the love of his life, Rose Mary, and they shared 47 beautiful years together. Together, they were longtime, active members of Calvary Baptist Church in Petal, MS. He often marveled at how a farm kid from Tishomingo found his soulmate, saying, “God only made one,” and that they found each other when they both needed it most. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and mutual support. He loved to dote on “Miss Rose Mary” and always lit up when she walked into the room. He deeply admired her and counted himself truly blessed to be loved by her.

A scholar and lifelong learner, Charles graduated from Memphis State and earned an MBA from the University of Arkansas. As a proud member of the United States Airforce, he was devoted to his country and served during the Korean War. As an avid reader, he enjoyed The Wall Street Journal and was very interested in the world of business and finance. His career in corporate finance took him across the globe, and he fondly remembered the experiences he had during his travels. He was known for his sharp memory, his love of storytelling, and his firm handshake, but mostly, he will be remembered as a devoted husband.

Work was Charles’ passion leaving him little time to develop hobbies; instead, he dedicated his life to building his career and his family. His stories of his travels and ventures captivated those around him, reflecting a life rich with experiences.

Charles leaves behind a legacy of endurance, determination, and intellectual curiosity. His family and friends will forever cherish the warmth of his storytelling, the depth of his enduring love for Rose Mary, and the quiet strength he carried as a Mississippi farm kid who experienced the world. In his final days, he told his grandson, “I have loved this life.”
