Charlene Kay “Kate” Wilson, of Wellington, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at the age of 84.
Kate was born the daughter of Gilford and Emma (Mann) Branch on February 21, 1941 in Arkansas City, Kansas.
Kate’s life was a rich tapestry woven with threads of love, dedication, and unwavering commitment to her family. She was a loving wife to Donald Wilson, with whom she shared 64 years of marital bliss, since their beautiful union on September 10, 1959 in Arkansas City, KS. Kate built a life marked by devotion, warmth, and the pursuit of simple joys. A compassionate soul, her life was a testament to her dedication and love for her family. She was a supportive pillar, always there for her loved ones, and a beacon of strength and resilience.
Kate’s caring nature extended to her professional life as well, where she served as a dedicated Department Manager in the Health and Beauty division at Dillons in Wellington, KS for 23 years. Her hobbies were a reflection of her loving and supportive nature. She found joy in preparing homemade meals for her family, especially during the holidays. Kate’s homemade candies and cookies were a much-anticipated treat for her family on holidays. She also enjoyed searching for treasures at local garage sales and often liked to dine out at buffets, whenever she could.
Survivors include her loving husband, Don Wilson; children: Teresa Burkey; Cindy (Steve) Anderson; Bobby (Ginger) Wilson; grandchildren: Jessica (Walt) Gould; Melissa (Zach) Goudie; Mitchell Anderson; Robert (Nikki) Burkey; Danni (Austen) Hybsha; Rylee (Josh) Schlesener; Garrett (Lyndsey) Wilson; Ty Wilson; Timmy Umscheid; great grandchildren: Taryn; Mikayla; Mason; Paisley; Greyson; Brooklyn; Jacob; Hank; Rowan; Walker; and brother, Claude (Nila) Branch.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gilford Branch; mother, Emma Conner; sister, Pat Thomas; brother, Fred Branch; and son in law, Jim Burkey.
A viewing will take place on Friday, June 20, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Cornejo Funeral Home & Crematory, 1030 Mission Rd., Wellington, Kansas 67152.
Funeral services to celebrate Kate’s life will be held at the funeral home on Monday, June 23, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Arkansas City, Kansas immediately following.
