Cathalina Ruth Duffield, affectionately known as Katie to her family and friends, was a beacon of light and inspiration throughout her 81 years of life. Born on November 26, 1943, in Denver, Colorado, she embarked on a journey that would be characterized by love and creativity. It is with a heavy heart that we announce her peaceful passing on June 4, 2025, in Spokane, Washington.
Katie was a woman of formidable intellect and unwavering faith. She met the love of her life in high school, Darren Duffield, and together they created a legacy of love that spanned 62 wonderful years. Their partnership was blessed with two daughters, Debra Wayne and Karren Little, who inherited their mother’s analytical mind and creative spirit. Katie’s family was her pride and joy, and she instilled in them the values of hard work and dedication.
A graduate of Metropolitan State College with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Katie was a pioneer in her field. She dedicated many years to Kroger Foods as a software programmer, where her colleagues revered her for her problem-solving skills and her ability to innovate. Her professional achievements were paralleled by her commitment to her family and community.
As President of the sewing club, Katie channeled her creative energy into crafting beautiful pieces that reflected her attention to detail and artistic flair. Her ability to weave together both fabric and community was a testament to her connective spirit.
Katie’s interests were as diverse as they were passionate. A motorcycle enthusiast, she found freedom on the open road, with the wind in her hair and adventure in her heart. Sewing and crafts provided a canvas for her imagination, while her love for computers kept her connected to the ever-evolving digital world. She indulged in the simple pleasures of life, with watermelon being her favorite treat and the yellow rose holding a special place in her heart.
Books on tape were a favorite pastime for Katie, allowing her to immerse herself in stories and knowledge without the need for sight. She lived her life with a faith-filled heart, guiding her through both trials and triumphs with grace and resilience.
Katie is survived by her devoted husband, Darren, their daughters Debra and Karren, grandchildren, Michael, Austin, Danielle, William, Kevin, and Katherine, and her sister Genevieve McCauley. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Bob and Richard Paris, whose memories she cherished deeply.
As we say goodbye to Cathalina Ruth Duffield, we celebrate a life that was rich in love, knowledge, and creativity. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her, and her memory will be treasured forever in the hearts of her loved ones. Katie’s journey through this life may have concluded, but the stories of her faith, intelligence, and creativity will resonate for generations to come.
