Carson City, Nev. (May 22, 2025) — Creativity and collaboration took center stage this week as Carson High School (CHS) art students unveiled their final ceramic monster sculptures, each one uniquely inspired by imaginative drawings from first-grade students at Fritsch Elementary School.

The cross-grade art collaboration challenged high school art students to transform the colorful monster sketches of their younger counterparts into three-dimensional clay creations.

The result: a whimsical and heartwarming collection of ceramic monsters that brought joy and excitement to both the young artists and their high school partners.

The first graders were delighted to see their imaginative creatures come to life in ceramic form, with bright glazes, expressive faces and playful features that reflected their original designs.

The collaboration culminated in a special art-sharing event last night, where the sculptures were hand-delivered by high schoolers and given to the first graders.

The elementary students were able to meet their artistic partners, view the finished pieces and celebrate their joint creativity.

“This special experience showed our students the power of imagination and teamwork,” said Adriane Wacker, Carson High School art teacher. “All of the younger students were thrilled to see how their monsters were transformed by the older students, who took such care in honoring their original ideas.”

Mrs. Sarah Russell, Ms. Estephanie Moreno, Mrs. Ashley Meznarich and Ms. Ruth Torres, first-grade teachers at Fritsch Elementary, had their students draw monsters in class. Ms. Wacker’s and Ms. Alisa Kuniya’s Ceramics classes at Carson High took on the assignment to replicate each of the student drawings into ceramic sculptures.
