Carson City Sheriff: Man shot forced himself into home after hit and run crashes

A shooting that happened Saturday afternoon at a Star Way residence in Carson City is under investigation and appears to have taken a bizarre turn.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is investigating the events that happened before the shooting, which involves a verbal altercation between two males, a vehicle chase in which two vehicles were struck in separate hit and run crashes that resulted from the chase and where it appears that one of the men from the altercation and chase went into the home on Star Way, and was shot inside the doorway of the residence after forcing his way into the home. The shooter did not know the man.

The shooting victim, who is being investigated, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong issued the following news release of the investigation:

At approximately 1:56 p.m., October 25, 2025, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting that had taken place at the 2200 block of Star Way.  Original reports indicated that an adult male had been shot just inside the doorway of the residence.

Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene at 2:01 p.m., along with Fire/Medical units.  At arrival, the occupants of the residence surrendered themselves to officers.   The victim of the shooting was treated at the scene and subsequently transported by air flight to Renown Medical Center for a serious gunshot wound to the chest.  Three people associated with the residence were immediately detained but later released pending the investigation.

Preliminary investigation information has suggested that two adult males were involved in a verbal altercation at a gas station on Hwy 50 near the I-580 intersection.  That dispute led to one driver chasing the other to the area of the Star Way residence.  Two separate vehicle accidents are suspected to be associated with this incident are being investigated.  One crash was reported as a hit and run accident on Biltmore Street, and the second crash was reported at the Star Way address, just one block away from the first crash scene.  No injuries were reported in either crash.

This investigation has centered on the motive of the shooting victim, who has no known affiliation or connection to the Star Way residence.  The residents of the home and female who shot the man did not know the victim of the shooting when he forced his way into their home.  No other injuries were reported.

The identity of those people involved and witnesses to the incident are not being released at this time.  The shooting victim’s medical condition was described as serious and requiring immediate surgery.  No further details are available.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Carson City Sheriff’s Office at 775-887-COPS (2677).

One of the vehicles involved was a food truck, which had been scheduled to attend Saturday night’s Battle of the Bites food truck competition downtown. Organizers of that competition said they spoke with one of the vendors, who told them they were involved in a hit and run earlier, which caused damage to their food truck.

When asked about the connection between the food truck being a victim vehicle from the vehicle pursuit, Sheriff Furlong said “we believe it is.”

The mater remains under investigation. Check back for updates.
