Carson City man arrested for DUI, felony hit and run with injury after allegedly fleeing crash scene Thursday

A 57-year-old Carson City man was arrested for felony hit and run with injury, DUI first, failure to provide or render aid, failure to notify of crash, reckless driving, and failure of due care. 

Dale Smith was arrested after deputies were dispatched to the area of I-580 and Fairview Thursday at around 6:30 p.m. on report of a hit and run with injury. 

Deputies received a description of the driver and vehicle from the victim, who said after rear-ending her, the driver left the scene recklessly. 

A witness stated they followed Smith’s vehicle after seeing they did not stop for the crash, and advised Smith was speeding, driving recklessly, and running stop signs. 

Deputies contacted Smith on Fairview and S. Edmonds, and he was seen outside of his car, heading eastbound from his vehicle. One deputy reported that Smith was crying and constantly saying “I’m sorry.” 

The reporting deputy then arrived on scene and spoke with Smith, stating they could immediately smell the odor of alcohol coming from his person. Smith was asked if he’d been drinking, and he said he had, but he did not know the amount or when he’d last had ad rink. He said he would not perform the field sobriety tests, and would not provide a PBT. 

Deputies noted that he was “staggered in his stance, had bloodshot eyes and sloppy clothing.” 

He was transported to the jail and a warrant was approved to take his blood for testing.

Carson City man arrested for harassment, DUI

A Carson City man, whose age was not listed, was arrested just before 10 p.m. for DUI first and harassment after deputies responded to the 1100 block of Lahontan Drive on report of a domestic dispute. 

Deputies learned that the man was “on drugs and attempting to gain entry into the residence” according to the report. Dispatch advised the man threatened the resident stating “you better hope the police get there first.” Dispatch also advised the man is known to have guns on his person and within the residence. 

While seeking to the resident, deputies saw the man driving his truck past the property, and a deputy left the scene to attempt to stop him. He was stopped at the intersection of Banner Peak and Wheeler Peak and was detained. The deputy who stopped the man stated he had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. 

Deputies took a video from the home’s ring camera showing he was threatening the resident as well as a third party, stating he was going to “f*ck him up,” and the third party stated he’d been parking his car in the garage to make it seem like he wasn’t home. The third party said he wanted to press harassment charges 

The reporting deputy went to make contact with the man, and noted he had bloodshot eyes, “sloppy clothing,” slurred speech, and was emitting a strong odor of alcohol from his person. The man denied field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test. 

A warrant was granted to seize his blood, and the man was transported to the jail for testing. After having his blood drawn, the man “complained of feeling weird” and was transported to the hospital. While at the hospital, the man was verbally aggressive towards CTH staff and refused to provide previous medical issues. He was cleared and returned to the jail.

Carson City woman said her container of methamphetamine was her ‘special rock,’ arrested for possession and paraphernalia

A 51-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 500 block of E. Long Street for possession of a controlled substance, possession of a drug without a prescription, and possession of paraphernalia. 

Deputies were dispatched on report of a suspicious subject just after midnight screaming outside an apartment. When deputies arrived on scene, they didn’t see anyone outside the unit, but they did hear someone screaming inside of it. 

The reporting deputy stated that the door to the unit was partially open, and they opened it and announced themselves as deputies. 

The woman said she was waiting for someone to open the door. According to the report, the room appeared to be a laundry room, and the door was open, and the lights were off. 

Deputies asked the woman to come out of the room and speak to them, and she agreed. She was wearing a baggy black jacket with “multiple items and bulges inside her pockets,” according to the reporting deputy, and she was holding something shiny in her hands. 

Deputies asked if they could search her for weapons, and she agreed. They asked what was in her hand, and if they could see it, and she said yes, “it’s my special rock.” She handed deputies a silver container, which had a white crystalline substance inside that was identified as methamphetamine. 

She did not have any additional contraband on her person, but she stated she had bags inside the laundry room and asked deputies to grab them. Inside one of the bags they located a prescription bottle for trazodone, which was prescribed to a different person. 

Just after midnight, the woman was taken into custody and at the jail, she advised she had used fentanyl within the last three days. Due to jail policy, the woman was transported to the hospital for medical clearance. After clearance, she was returned to the jail just after 2 a.m. and released without issue.

Carson City man arrested for DUI, possession of cocaine and paraphernalia

A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested for DUI first, possession of cocaine and possession of paraphernalia. 

According to the arrest report, the man was arrested in the area of N Roop St. and E. Winnie Lane early Friday morning after deputies were patrolling in the area at around 2:30 a.m.

The reporting deputy was dispatched to provide backup for another deputy who stopped a vehicle for failure to maintain a lane, and that the vehicle had also run a red light. 

Deputies searched the man and located a small baggie containing a white powdery substance identified as cocaine. 

The reporting deputy said the man had a moderate odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage coming from his person, and that he had red watery eyes and slurred speech. Using google translate, deputies asked the man if he’d had anything to drink, and the man allegedly said he had consumed three beers, and he was coming from a friend’s house after a birthday party. 

He told deputies he believed it was 11:45 p.m., while it was actually 2:40 a.m. He agreed to field sobriety tests and showed some signs of impairment, and provided a PBT sample resulting in a  .206 BAC. He was taken into custody without issue. 

In other arrests:

—Gabriel Rendon Ruiz (30) of Carson City was arrested on a  felony Douglas County Warrant issued out of East Fork April 23, 2025. The report did not include the original charge. Bail: $2,000 cash only.

He was later add-booked for an additional warrant charge for fraudulent use of a credit card with an additional cash only bail of $5,000 issued June 2, 2025. 

—A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested on two contempt of court warrants, one issued in Carson City on May 13, the other from East Fork May 30, both of this year.
