Carson City arrests: Man booked for felony eluding, reckless driving following pursuit

A 20-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of felony eluding and other alleged offenses following a vehicle pursuit, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.

Ricardo Madrid Segura Jr., was taken into custody at 12:30 p.m. following an investigation. He was also booked for felony parole and probation violation and misdemeanor reckless driving.

According to the booking report, a deputy was observing traffic and running radar on Fairview Drive south of the Fifth Street roundabout.

The deputy observed a white sedan traveling northbound and estimated the vehicle was traveling at 60 mph. The deputy radar locked the sedan traveling 59 mph in a 40 mph zone. The vehicle gradually slowed down while approaching the deputy. As the vehicle passed the patrol vehicle, the deputy activated their overhead lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop on Fairview, south of the roundabout.

The white sedan slowed down as if it was going to pull over on the right shoulder, the report states. The vehicle then accelerated at a high rate of speed northbound on Fairview. The sedan passed a vehicle on the left toward oncoming traffic and entered the roundabout.

The sedan continued and passed another vehicle in the left lane toward oncoming traffic. The deputy estimated the vehicle was traveling between 95 mph to 100 mph when it approached the intersection of Pheasant Drive and Fairview. The deputy observed the sedan make a left turn onto Highway 50 East and Fairview, running a red light and nearly causing an accident in the intersection. The vehicle then accelerated at a high rate of speed westbound on Highway 50 East. The pursuit was was downgraded for safety reasons and the deputy lost visual of the driver, who was last seen headed toward Reno.

During the pursuit, the vehicle showed a Nevada license plate number. The deputy ran the plate number through dispatch and learned the registered address of the owner was at an address in the 3400 block of South Carson Street.

The deputy made contact at the address where a woman stated her son drives the vehicle. She called him and told him he needed to come home. The deputy spoke with the suspect on the phone and learned the following: He stated he wad driving the white Audi sedan and was going to wash his car. The deputy informed him that he knew he was not in Carson City because he was last seen heading to Reno. The man agreed with the deputy’s statement and stated he would be home in 20 to 25 minutes.

The deputy and another deputy waited at the residence, but the man never showed up. The mother stated she would call the sheriff’s office once her son returned home.

Meanwhile, deputies collected video cameras surrounding the suspect’s residence. He was then seen getting into the white Audi, then sitting in the vehicle for a few minutes before driving away.

The mother notified Carson City dispatch that her son was at the residence at 12:26 p.m. Deputies observed the white Audi parked along the street. Deputies made contact with the man at the residence. He was detained and read his Miranda rights. He stated he understood those rights and wished to talk. He said he was was on parole with a 19 to 36-month sentencing hanging over his head.
