Carole Downey
Carole Rhea Downey, 78, of Springfield IL, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2025. Carole was born on January 27, 1947, in Springfield, IL to Raymond J. and Dorothy Margaret (Cassell) Downey.
Carole is survived by her two sisters, Marilyn Reid of Belle Meade, NJ and Sharon (Larry) Squires of Chatham, IL; one brother, George (Kay) Downey of Springfield, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Barbara Wright and Dorothy Brown; and three brothers, Jack Downey, Jerry Downey, and Richard (Dick) Downey.
Carole was a lifelong resident of Springfield. She graduated from Lanphier High School. Upon graduation, Carole worked for the State of Illinois as a public administrator with the Department of Public Aid. She retired after 35 years of dedicated work.
Carole was a woman of great faith and attended St. Joseph Church. She enjoyed volunteering at Grace Lutheran Food Pantry and the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
Visitation: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 12:00 pm, Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Reverend Manuel P. Cuizon officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
