Carmen Silva

Carmen Rosa Silva, lovingly known as “Mama” to many, passed away peacefully on July 19th, 2025, in her Staten Island home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 93 years old.

Carmen was born on August 25th, 1931, to Angel and Maria Miranda. She was one of eight siblings and a proud daughter of Puerto Rico- a place she always held close to her heart. Carmen was married to the late Fernando Silva, our beloved father, who absolutely adored her. She became a widow in 1989 while living in Puerto Rico. Though her heart endured loss, her spirit remained strong, and her love only grew deeper.

She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Carmen’s heart knew no limits- she was also a cherished sister and a true friend to many. She loved her family dearly and cherished every moment spent at family gatherings. She found joy in every celebration and was always ready to help anyone in need.

In her earlier years, she expressed her creativity through sewing and crocheting, always making things with love. She was also passionate about teaching children- both her own and others- about faith and the love of God. Carmen was a woman of deep faith, often referring to Jesus as “a friend who never failed.” 

Her warmth, strength and unwavering kindness touched the lives of all who knew her. She leaves behind a large and loving family across Staten Island, New York, and Puerto Rico, all of whom will miss her dearly.

Rest in peace, Mama, with your Friend that never fails. Your love will remain forever in our hearts.
