Carl Russell “Rusty” Maynard, 66, of Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. Born on May 17th, 1959, in Pikeville, Kentucky, Rusty was the beloved son of the late Julia Ann (Blankenship) and R.C. Maynard.
Rusty was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Richard Maynard of Pikeville, Kentucky. He is survived by his younger brother, Roger Maynard and wife Helena Maynard, of Charlotte, North Carolina.
On the foundation of love and devotion, Rusty shared 47 years of marriage with his wife, Hazel Gibson Maynard (Heifer). Together, they built a life full of laughter, warmth, and enduring commitment. He was a proud father to his daughter, Devan Maynard Slone, and her husband, Zack Slone, of Prestonsburg, Kentucky. He was also a loving grandfather to his adopted grandchildren, Destiny Handshoe and Jeremy Handshoe, of Salyersville, Kentucky.
Rusty was known for his quick wit, warm smile, and a gift for making people laugh. Whether with family, friends, or strangers, he had a way of brightening a room and leaving those around him with lighter hearts. His humor was his signature, and his joy in life was infectious. He was a faithful member of the Hueysville Church of Christ, where his faith guided his life and relationships. He lived his beliefs through kindness, humility, and a steadfast love for others.
Rusty’s legacy is one of love, laughter, faith, and the countless happy memories he created for those blessed enough to know him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his spirit will live on in the stories told, the laughter shared, and the love he gave so freely.
