Carl E. Frease, 67, of Youngstown, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Hospice House, following a heart attack.
Carl was born on June 29, 1958, to Dale and Anne (Draper) Frease, and lived most of his life in Youngstown. He served in the United States Navy in the mid-1970s, and lived with his wife, Anna Marie, for a brief time in Twin Falls, Idaho, where he received his degree in Fisheries Technology from the College of Southern Idaho.
Carl is fondly remembered by family and friends as a gentle soul and jokester, who could always make you laugh as he retold the stories of his younger years. Carl, courageously and with his usual humor, battled cancer in December 2024 and beat it in January 2025. Carl loved to read and was rarely without a book in hand. He had a passion for rock music, cars and motorcycles, and was a self-proclaimed “jack of all trades, master of none”.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 44 years, Anna Marie (Chizmar) Frease, whom he married on October.16, 1981, their son, John E. (Stefanie) Ward of Texas, daughters Brandy Carnahan and Judy, his brothers, Dale (Pam), Joe (Sherry), Tim (Sharon), and sister, Betty Ann Koehler, 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved sisters, baby Norma Jean Frease and Tammy Vimmerstedt.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests material tributes take the form of donations to your favorite charity.
A private ceremony to place Carl’s ashes in the Chizmar family estate columbarium at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown, will be held at a later date.
Arrangements for Mr. Frease are being provided by the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel, 65 N. Broad St., Canfield.
