In Loving Memory of Brian Thomas Carey
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brian Thomas Carey, age 25, on August 19, 2025, in Manistee, Michigan.
Brian was born on September 21, 1999, at Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. He is survived by his loving parents, Kathleen and Brian Carey; his brothers Nicholas, Michael, and Joseph, and Joseph’s wife, Carrie Carey and their two daughters, Charlotte Ann Carey and Emelia Grace Carey. He is also survived by his grandparents, Nicholas and Peggy O’Brien.
Brian was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Vincent and Anne Carey.
He spent his childhood in Greenville, NY, where he attended Minisink Valley Central Schools. After high school, Brian went on to graduate from Franklin Pierce University with a bachelor’s degree in Communications. He later moved to Michigan, where he worked as a Senior Benefits Coordinator.
In the wake of this tragic loss, Brian continued to give to others, even in death, through organ donation. Eight lives have been saved so far thanks to his selfless gift. His love lives on in the lives he touched.
Brian was an animal lover and will be deeply missed by his dogs, Zeus and Tilly, and his many chickens. He had a passion for sports throughout his life, playing on various youth and travel soccer and baseball teams, and later joining the Franklin Pierce rugby team. More recently, he enjoyed playing in a local softball league with friends.
One of Brian’s favorite traditions was the annual family Turkey Bowl, a Thanksgiving morning flag football game that brought together his large family of brothers for laughter and friendly competition.
Brian was a joyful, playful, and kind soul. Every time he returned home, he’d challenge his brother Joseph to a basement ping pong match, just like they did when they were kids.
Brian also leaves behind many extended family members, including Uncle Sean and Aunt Martha O’Brien and their children Sean, Kyle, Kevin, and Katie; Uncle Brenden and Aunt Jennifer O’Brien and their children Jack, Isabel, and Sophia; and Uncle Patrick and Aunt Eileen O’Brien, and their son Matthew; Uncle Drew and Aunt Karen Byelick and their children Careyanne and Colin; and Uncle Timothy and Aunt Barbara and their daughter Molly.
Brian was a bright light in our lives, a light that will never go out. Our family will forever honor his memory and the profound gifts he gave others, even in his passing. We continue to pray for the progress of his spirit. May love and light continue to shine through him, and through all of us who carry his memory forward.
