Bonnie Hoen

Bonnie Jean Anderson Hillam Hoen, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025 at the age of 80. She was born on October 10,1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to her loving parents, Jean and Duane Hillam.
She grew up in a loving home alongside her six siblings in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from Olympus High School in 1962. Bonnie then attended Brigham Young University where she met James (Jim) Howard Hoen. On September 9, 1964, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Bonnie loved being married into the Hoen family and always considered them her own. Bonnie and Jim made their home in Orem in 1968, where Bonnie resided the rest of her life. Bonnie’s life was a testament to her unwavering commitment to her family and her deep faith. Together, Bonnie and Jim built a beautiful life and raised a family of eight cherished children: Howard (Jill) Hoen, AnnaLisa (Justin) Dinehart, Heather (Andrew) McKane, Rebecca (Paul) Hogge, Daniel (Sara) Hoen, Kirk (Julianne) Hoen, Brad (Melissa) Hoen, and Craig (Kandice) Hoen. Her home in Orem was the heart of her family and was filled with love, laughter, and music.
Bonnie was a devoted homemaker, finding immense joy in nurturing her family. Bonnie served many years in the Boy Scouts of America and proudly supported all of her five sons in achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. She taught her daughters in 4-H her love of homemaking, cooking, and sewing. Bonnie loved the outdoors, nature, and being in the mountains and passed on this love to all of her children. They all loved being together and have many special memories at the Hoen family cabin that Jim and his siblings built.
Her passion and love for music shone brightly through her as she taught piano for over 35 years to many of her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and students whom she all loved. She loved playing and listening to classical music and was a steadfast supporter of the Utah Valley Symphony, and attended their concerts for over 50 years.
Her dedication to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was a cornerstone of her life. Bonnie served faithfully in numerous callings, touching countless lives with her Christlike love and service. She loved serving as a senior missionary in the Nauvoo, Illinois Mission from 2014-2015. For over ten years, she served diligently as a temple worker in the Mount Timpanogos, Provo, and Orem Temples, dedicating herself to family history and the sacred work for her ancestors. Bonnie also honored her heritage by being a proud member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP) organization since 2011.
Bonnie always loved learning and received her Associate of Science degree from BYU in 1967. She was finally able to fulfill her dream of receiving her Bachelors of Science Degree in 2021 from BYUI at the age of 76. She was an avid reader and has been a member of a neighborhood book club since 1988- over 36 years. She loved her book club friends.
Bonnie lived very independently without her sweetheart for over 24 years and taught her children independence as well. Bonnie’s legacy of love, faith, music, and service will live on in the hearts of her 35 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. She exemplified a life of purpose and devotion, leaving an enduring impact on all who were blessed to know her. She will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jim, her parents Jean and Duane Hillam, her siblings Judy and Merrilee, and baby siblings LeRoy and Sherrie. She is survived by her eight children, 35 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and her siblings, Doug (Kandy), Patti, Terry (Jim), and Laurie.
On Monday, June 9, 2025 from 6:00-8:00pm a viewing will be held at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 E 800 N, Orem, UT 84097. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday June 10, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 310 North 100 East in Orem, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 9:30-10:30am. All friends and family are welcome to attend. Interment will follow the funeral services at Orem City Cemetery.
