Bernice “Berni” Scank Eichengreen
April 15, 1948 – June 22, 2025
Corning, NY
It is with heavy hearts that we, husband and children, share the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Bernice “Berni” Eichengreen, who departed this life on June 22, 2025 at the age of 77.
Born on April 15, 1948, in Tuxedo, New York, Berni was the cherished daughter of Veronica “Ronnie” (Dowd) Marusich and Russel Scank. She grew up in Tuxedo and graduated from Albany Medical Center School of Nursing. She dedicated her life as an operating room nurse, most notably at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, New York. She worked there for 23 years prior to relocating and retiring from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira, New York.
Berni will be remembered for her kindness, strength, dedication, unwavering support and deep love for her family and friends. She loved to visit family, read novels, cheer on the Yankees, watch the Little League World Series and bake cookies, especially at Christmas time. She brought joy to many over the years through her creation of personalized cross stitches and gifts, ability to lend a listening ear, her quick witted humor and vast medical knowledge.
Berni is survived by her husband, Tom Eichengreen, and their three children: Michelle (Jaime) Carvajal, Kristin (Larry) Brickhouse and John (Brooke) Eichengreen and her pride and joy, her grandsons Matthew & Connor. In addition, she is survived by her brothers and sisters: Stephen (Sherri) Marusich of Navarre, FL, Kathleen Marusich of Navarre, FL, Robert (Charlene) Marusich of Norfolk, VA & JoAnn Marusich (Viki Wells) of Terrebonne, OR and their beloved sister-in-law Katie Marusich of Tuxedo, NY. Berni is further survived by her brother-in-law Paul (Chris) Eichengreen of Tuxedo, NY and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Russel Scank & Veronica Marusich, brothers John Scank & Michael Marusich and her in-laws William & June Eichengreen.
Family and friends are able to pay their respects on Sunday, July 27th, 2025 from 4pm – 8pm at Edwards Funeral Chapel, 160 Orange Avenue, Suffern, NY. A memorial service/celebration of life will be held on Monday, July 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Ascension Cemetery, 650 Saddle River Road, Airmont, NY 10952. All who knew and loved Berni are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to Good Samaritan Foundation for Better Health, giving specifically to The Center for Breast Health, in honor of Berni’s fighting spirit and lasting legacy.
We will carry her memory in our hearts always.
