Barry Regan

Barry Regan
Born in Walnut Creek, California on February 26th, 1956 to the late James and Dorothy Regan, Barry passed away on May 16th, 2025 in Antioch, California. He is survived by his loving siblings; sisters Kimberly, Shannon, Reyne and Dana and twin brother Brien.

Barry spent many years working for Stepping Stones mobile unit in janitorial and landscaping for people with disabilities. They went out to local companies throughout the east bay, to which Barry donned a mans working jumper suit and black boots and carried a gray lunch box and thermos ( with, of course, milk) Later, he transferred to the Naval base local commissary, working the night shift stocking shelves and would bring home to our mom some overstock items left over or expired.

Barry practiced at Creative Growths Studio since 2002, working primarily on paper and assemblage wood sculpture. With tours of his art in The Museum of Modern Art Venice, San Francisco and New York he partnered with Target for their hand soap design cover.

Barrys densely inhabited color fields are an endless negotiation with the fundamental qualities of circles and negative space. The relationships are evocative of Yayoi Kusamas Infinity Net series, although it is unlikely Barry ever saw the artists work. Repeated circles flow in and around each other, swelling and shrinking to create immersive waves of movement and color.

Barry loved gardening and his colorful aesthetic may be rooted in his experiences with landscaping, fields of flowers and natural patterning. Music and art were his life. Many of his masterpieces were done with headphones on his ears, listening to his favorite music.

Barry enjoyed spending time with his family on holidays and weekends just hanging out, watching movies, taking long walks by the Alameda beach, going to car shows, record stores, working in the garden with Kim and attending flea markets with Dana. He will be remembered by his neighbors and friends walking around his old town where he would nod at you and smile as he passed by on his long walks.

Family and friends are invited to attend services in honor of Barry. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 11th at 3:00pm with vigil service to begin at 5:30pm at Greer Family Mortuary and Cremation Services. Memorial Mass will be held at St. Barnabas Catholic Church the following day, Thursday, June 12th at 10:00am.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider making a donation to Creative Growth Art Center with Barry in mind. https://creativegrowth.org
