Barbara Scholtus
- April 30, 2025

Barbara Donn Scholtus, 66 of Rose Hill, Iowa, went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on April 28, 2025. She was surrounded by her loved ones, including her devoted sister and caretaker, Debra Scholtus Lowe, daughter, Megan Blauw, and beloved cousin, Patrick Lundy. Barbara was born on September 22, 1958, to Donald Raymond Scholtus and Shirley Ann Lundy Scholtus in Mahaska County, Iowa. Barbara attended school in the Oskaloosa school system and graduated in 1978. Barbara was a very loving person with a fun personality. Barbara was a devoted daughter and caretaker to her own mother while she was ill. She had a great love for Jesus Christ. Summers were spent cooking and in the garden where she was canning tomatoes and freezing sweetcorn. Cooking was her expertise. She always had a hot meal ready for her daughter when she came home from school. Barbara’s favorite pastime was watching tv series, including Little House On The Prairie, Waltons Mountain, Gunsmoke and the Rifleman.
Barbara is survived by one daughter, Megan Nicole and her husband JD Blauw, 9 grandchildren, Gage, Remington, Lyla, Joshua Jr., Micah, Hailey, Kimber, Conagher and Caliber, and her adopted grandchildren, Travis, Aaron and Victoria. Those left to cherish her memory also include two sisters, Debra Scholtus Lowe and Beverly Scholtus Montgomery, nephew Matthew Montgomery and niece, Holly Ann Kibbee.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Shirley Scholtus, niece Heather Marie Montgomery, grandparents Emmett and Venita Lundy and Aart and Carrie Scholtus, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Barbara was welcomed home by her heavenly family.
As was Barbara’s wish her body was cremated. A visitation with family present will be Monday, May 5, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
My sweet sister, Thank you for being my forever friend and comfort. Your love is the greatest blessing in my life, and I’ll treasure you endlessly.
Your devoted Sister, Deb.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 “I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.” John 5:24
Our love for Barbara does not disappear; it transforms. It lingers in the echoes of laughter, in the warmth of old memories, in the silent moments when we still reach for what is no longer there. Grief is the deepest proof that love existed, and you have beautifully touched our lives.
