Barbara Humphrey

Barbara Sharon Dorsey, born April 5, 1951. Her mother Dora Selmon came to San Diego, California following her brothers who had enlisted in the military. Barbara the eldest daughter of three would help her mother settle into a life in San Diego. Dora would later marry Huey P. Coney and the family would settle in Southeast San Diego.

Barbara attended Memorial Junior High, and would graduate from San Diego High School. During her youth, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, and the family social gatherings with her cousins. The Selmon Family made it a point to see each other often having fish fry’s, card night, and always celebrating the family roots.

At the age of 19 Barbara married Larry Maurice Humphrey, and they welcomed Larry Maurice Humphrey III (Bubba)

on May 20, 1971. They would later divorce, but remained amicably co-parents. She would later meet Donald Denson, and to their union Maieshia Denson (Boo) was born April, 22 1976.

As a single mother of Bubba and boo, she began her career in Medical Administration at the Euclid Medical Center, first working at the reception desk. She would go on to embark in the everything that was Euclid Medical Center, from the football pool; to the Avon collection she was involved. As a side hustle Barbara and her cousin would clean the building at night, always working for her family. She would later go on to work for Dr. Merritt Mathews for the remainder of her career. Dr. Matthews and she would go on to forge a bond that would remain throughout time. Her career at the medical center would also set the tone for what would be her daughter’s career in law. She quickly became the go to lady at the medical center, often being a part of lives and families of all the women and men who worked at the Euclid Medical Center.
