The beloved wife of Stephen Smallwood, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Mrs. Annie Lousie Smallwood joined her mother, father, eldest child, Felicia, brother, Kelvin, and twin brother, Bernard Rogers Bond in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Annie was suddenly called to rest at her home on Wednesday morning shortly after 8 am. Our Heavenly Father whispered gently in her ear, Annie, my child, it’s time to come home. She now rests in the safety of His mighty, heavenly arms until the resurrection day.
She was born in Windsor, North Carolina, the daughter of Albert Bond, Sr. and Beulah Louise Bond. She and her twin brother were the third oldest of seven siblings. She was lovingly nicknamed “Duck” by her parents which was a term of endearment and a source of much laughter for the family.
Annie attended Bertie High School and afterward married the love of her life, Stephen Smallwood. They were married for fifty-eight years. She worked briefly at Atlantic City Memorial Hospital in New Jersey, but her pride and joy were raising her four successful children. Annie loved the Lord with all of her heart and knew many scriptures by memory.
Her favorite books to read were Proverbs and Psalms. She read the Bible daily and continually attested to the goodness of God. She often stated that she was in no way afraid of death. In fact, she would frequently say that she had the blessed assurance Jesus was hers. Annie had an incredible singing voice. Her powerful voice not only brought her joy, but it was also a source of enjoyment to her family and others as well.
She was a warrior in the midst of coping with her health challenges; yet, she persevered to the end by the amazing grace of God. Annie enjoyed going to church, singing, and being the best homemaker possible for her family.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Stephen Smallwood of Windsor, NC; children: Crystal Lamb (Dennis Lamb) of Lillington, NC, Marlon Smallwood (Vickie Smallwood) of Raleigh, NC, Shannon Erby (Avilla Erby) of Whitsett, NC, siblings: Margaret Bond Bunch (Lafayette Bunch) of Windsor, NC, Sybil Bond Sutton (Anthony Sutton) of Wilson, NC, Amanda Johnson (Willie Johnson) of Windsor, NC,; James Bond (Linda Bond) of Windsor, NC; grandchildren: Areale Smith, Kiara Odoom (Michael Odoom), Makeda Singletary (Will Singletary), Zion Smallwood, Japera Smallwood, and Naomi Erby; two great-grandchildren: Michael Odoom Jr. and Makyla Singletary; a host of nieces and nephews: Lauren Bunch, Candance Sutton Sauls (Keane Sauls), Rejulia Outlaw, Angela Norfleet, Daphne Outlaw, Mykayla Outlaw, Michael Outlaw, Lorenza Bullock, Aldwin Bond, Jamie Bond, Gerald Outlaw (late), and Ronde Outlaw. She has also joined five sisters and brothers who preceded her in death from her father’s previous marriage: Albert M. Bond, Joseph Bond, Levi Bond, Mary Bond and Beatrice Williams.
