Ana Mendez

Ana Luz Mendez, resident of Jersey City since 2001, passed away on September 27, 2023 at Peace Care St. Ann’s. She arrived from Puerto Rico in 1958 to New York City, where she was a devoted mother and wife, and worked for more than 15 years providing home assistance to the elderly, particularly those with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Her life was a vivid example of her belief that true richness is gained by treating all people, creatures, and the environment with love and dignity. She will be missed and remembered by all for her pizza, sour cream pound cake, and sparks of sass. Ana is survived by her (and her deceased husband, Jose’s) only child, Nancy Méndez-Booth, and her husband, John T. Booth, as well as four sisters, one brother, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held at McLaughlin’s Funeral Home on Monday, October 2, 2023 from 4pm to 8pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Aedan’s Church (800 Bergen Avenue, Jersey City) on Tuesday, October 3 at 10:30 am. Her inurned remains will be placed at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City at a date TBD. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Peace Care St. Ann’s or Act Now Foundation Dementia Center.
