Amilcar Monroy

Amilcar Monroy, 63, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, at RWJ University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in Paterson, and formerly of Bergenfield, he was a longtime resident of Scotch Plains.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit Monday, 6/2, from 10am-12pm and 5-7pm at Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Ave. West, Cranford, N.J., 07016.

Amilcar worked professionally as a machinist with The New York Times for over 20 years. He was a member of the Machinist IAM Union. An avid athlete and sports fan, he enjoyed golf, fishing, English Premier League soccer, and most of all, he loved baseball. He was also a big fan of Jimmy Buffett.

He was predeceased by his father, Luis A. Monroy Sr.; his brother Luis A. Monroy Jr.; and his sister, Muriel C. Monroy-Conway.

Surviving are his devoted wife of 36 years, Maureen; his beloved children, Kelly Monroy Tong, Matthew Monroy, and Christy Monroy Bravo; his loving grandson, Benjamin Caldwell; his mother, Emma Monroy; his brother, Hamlet Monroy; his sister, Astrid Mamatz; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
