Alvin J. “Al” Servello, 89, of Duncansville, peacefully passed away on Tuesday evening, May 20, 2025, at Garvey Manor Nursing Home in Hollidaysburg. Born in Altoona, he was the son of the late Alvin and Catherine (Bickel) Servello. Al shared a lifetime of love with his wife, the former Rose Eger.
Al is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Rose; his son, Alvin J. Servello Jr. (Dawn); daughters, Annette Servello and Kelly Smith (Lynn); 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson. He is also survived by his brothers, Eddie, Bobby, Donny, and Danny; his sister, Darlene; and many adoring nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughters, Tammy Brown and Roxanne Gionfriddo, a granddaughter, JoLynne Clark and four brothers: Bud, George, Chuck, And Dave.
From the age of 12, Al demonstrated a strong work ethic, beginning in the local bowling alleys. He proudly served his country as a US Navy veteran during the Korean War. Upon his return, he pursued a career in construction and later as a truck driver. He retired as a maintenance worker for Child Advocates of Blair County.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Al was particularly fond of football and baseball. He was also an avid and skilled bowler, achieving three perfect 300 games and earning “Bowler of the Week” honors numerous times. Al valued physical fitness, regularly engaging in weightlifting and cycling from Altoona to Cresson. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas to visit family. He had a deep appreciation for history and a love for his pets. Above all, Al’s greatest joy came from his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed time spent with visitors in his home.
Al was a member of The Bavarian Aide Society in Altoona and a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hollidaysburg.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 12 PM to 2 PM at The Good Funeral Home Inc., located at 108 Alto Reste Park, Altoona, PA 16601. A funeral service will follow at 2 PM, with full military honors. A private interment will be held at Alto Reste Park, Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Alvin’s honor may be made to The Blair County Veterans Honor Guard.
