Alma Scully

Scarborough—Alma Coleman Scully of Scarborough, Maine (formerly of Orchard Park & Eden, NY) passed away on July 18, 2025, surrounded by loving family.

Alma was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the daughter of William & Katharine (Pucher) Coleman, and spent her childhood in New York City. Alma and her parents enjoyed spending their vacations camping in various spots around the northeast. In 1950, they found a spot in Stonington, Maine, that felt like home – a place they would return to throughout their lives.

She graduated from Hunter College in 1953, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education. Alma went on to earn her Master’s of Education from SUNY University at Buffalo in 1964. She taught at Orchard Park High School and then worked at the Southtowns YMCA as a program director until retirement.

Alma married Donald B. Scully, Jr. March 28, 1953, in New York City. They were married for 54 years until Donald’s death in 2008. They raised their children in Orchard Park and spent the summers in Stonington, Maine. Alma moved to Scarborough, Maine in 2015 and continued to enjoy time with her family in Stonington.

She is survived by her 4 children, Patricia (James), Kevin (Donna), Elizabeth (Jack), and Susan (Charles), 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 14 step-great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on a future date in Stonington, Maine.
