Paul M. Neeson, 75, of Yorkville, IL passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021.

Paul was born on November 4th, 1945, in Springfield, IL. He was the son of Richard T.  and Mary Lou (Huesman) Neeson. Paul married Karen Wagner on December 30th, 1967, in Auburn, WA.

Paul was respected and appreciated by those who knew him. He was good-natured, modest, and easy-going. He loved the southwest and lived in his western hat, boots, and shirts. Paul’s love of travel included all 50 states, Italy, Mexico, and Canada. He created many happy memories for his family with various family vacations.

Paul was very honored to have served his country during his 35 years as a physicist at the U.S. Department of Energy and through his military service spanning 37 years of Active and Active Reserve Duty. Having achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel, he was stationed at the Pentagon during Desert Storm and Desert Shield. He organized a Veterans program at Argonne National Laboratory for many years. In addition, Paul was a member of the Salt Creek Civil War Round Table and served as President of the MId-West Chapter of the Health Physics Society for four years.

Paul was a gifted musician, performing in the American Legion Band for many years and the Sandwich Community Band.

Survivors include his wife Karen of 53 years, daughters Barbara (Neeson) Lauff of Sterling, IL and Deborah (Mark) Jilek of Joliet: three grandchildren: Emma Jilek, Helen Jilek, and Nathan Jilek; and two sisters: Jo Samuelian and Mary Ford, both of CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Richard and John.

    My husbands name was Paul Neeson. He was from Pittsburgh and we lived in MAssachusetts. He died on August 29 of this years. He was 85. What coincidences. Also my birthday is November 4 and i’m Armenian!

    You have my sympathy.
