Samuel A. Sayre

Samuel A. Sayre, 74, of Strasburg, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021 in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a recent period of declining health.
A son of the late Alvin Arden and Margaret Catherine (Southall) Sayre, Samuel was born December 26, 1946 at Ripley, West Virginia.
On April 12, 1966, Samuel married the former Betty J. Price-Savage and the couple raised two children, Samuel II and Elisabeth.
He was longtime member of the Ohio Operating Engineers Union having retired after 46 years of service.
Samuel had a passion for muscle cars and he was extremely proud of his 1970 Chevelle in which he completed an off frame total restoration himself. He also was an artist and over the years completed numerous drawings of muscle cars.
He will be remembered by his family as being a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather as well as for being an animal lover.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Sayre; his daughter and son-in-law, Elisabeth and Kasey Kuhlman of Cincinnati; his grandchildren, Dylan Sayre, Samantha Cline and Chase, Spencer and Cameron Kuhlman; two great-grandchildren, Izzy and Declan; his sister, Janice and his beloved cat, Jinx.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Samuel A. Sayre II and his brother, James.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A funeral service celebrating Samuel’s life will follow at 4 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Following the service a reception will be held in the hospitality room in the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Dover Burial Park.
