Dennis Arlen Kaplan, 86, of Richardson, Texas, passed away on May 16, 2023. Dennis was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Jan. 23, 1937, to Lumir Kaplan and Roberta Kaplan (Nemec). Dennis graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Dennis was married 61 years to the love of his life, Joyce (Mahring) on Oct. 6, 1961. Dennis worked in telecommunications for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Rockwell International and Alcatel in Richardson, Texas.
He was a longtime member of the American Legion, Sokol in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Genealogy Friends of the Plano Libraries. He was chapter president of Lowrey Organ L.I.F.E. program. He was also a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Dennis had a vast passion for photography. He could be found with his camera at any time and enjoyed spending time developing his work himself. Dennis loved boating and being on the water, grilling for his friends and family, woodworking, astronomy, snowmobiling, flying, traveling, and he particularly loved his association with Romeo Music and his Lowrey organ, and so many more interests than you could possibly imagine.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Joyce; and his daughters, Kerrin Kaplan and Teresa Kaplan; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lumir and Roberta Kaplan; his brother, Jack Kaplan; sister, Susan Williams (Kaplan); and niece, Kristin Sekafetz (Kaplan).
A memorial service will be held in Dennis’ honor at 11 a.m. Monday, June 5, at Sparkman Funeral Home at 1029 South Greenville Ave., Richardson, TX 75081.
