Theresa Surrett Blynt

It is with the heaviest heart we share Theresa Surrett Blynt of Fletcher, NC, passed away on Sunday afternoon, July 24, 2022, after a very long, hard fought and courageous battle with cancer. She was at home surrounded by her family and her beloved dog Macie.

Theresa is survived by her husband David Blynt, daughter Ivy Miller and her husband Josh Miller of Arden; sons, Tucker Blynt of Fletcher and his girlfriend Emily Black, Everette Malchow of Florida; mother Barbara Surrett, maternal grandmother Mafra Crisp, sisters Sheila Zachary (Ben), LaDonna Eby (Chris); father-in-law Melvin Blynt, brother-in-law Jim Blynt, nephew Clay Shook, niece Haley Meade (Ben) and her great nephew Raleigh; niece Savannah Eby. Theresa was blessed with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.

Theresa was born to Barbara Crisp Surrett and Joyce Robert Surrett (deceased) and grew up in Candler, North Carolina. Theresa was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. She graduated from Enka High School in 1985 and retired from the Buncombe County Identification Bureau soon after the onset of her illness.

Theresa was a loving wife to David for over 29 years, their devotion to each other was steadfast and never more apparent than the last several years as her illness progressed and David took such tender loving care of her. Theresa was a doting mother, she was happy to be the central figure in the lives of her children. Anyone who knew them knew she was a star in their eyes and that’s all that ever mattered to her. Theresa also welcomed their friends and many other children into their home and loved them unconditionally. Theresa was a devoted daughter and an amazing sister. Sheila and LaDonna were blessed with a lifetime of memories, unwavering friendship, laughter and sometimes tears, but most of all love.

Theresa was one of those rare people who always looked for and found the good in others. She touched many lives and those who knew her will remember her kind and giving heart, her loyalty and her dedication to and love for her family.

Theresa maintained her faith and a positive attitude throughout her illness and remained focused on her family rather than herself. Recently, Theresa spoke frequently of waiting on Jesus. She was at peace and said on Saturday she was excited about going to Heaven. We believe Pop was there to welcome her home and take heart in knowing we will all be together again one day.

A celebration of life will be held at Ridgeway Baptist Church in Candler on Saturday, August 6. Visitation will start at 12:00 PM and the service will begin at 2:00 PM.

David and the children would like to thank family, friends and neighbors who provided meals, assistance, and support especially over the last several weeks. The family would also like to thank the wonderful staff of Four Seasons Hospice for the care given and love they showered on Theresa, as well as, the support provided to the family during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to In Memory of Theresa Blynt, SECU Family House, 1970 Baldwin Ln, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
