Quintina “Nena” Gravador Elazegui

Quintina “Nena” Gravador Elazegui

Quintina “Nena” Gravador Elazegui, age 89, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2020 in Chicago, IL.  She was born November 5th, 1931 in Calamba Laguna, Philippines. She was married for 40 years to the love of her life, the late Mauro T Elazegui, Jr. before his passing on March 16, 1992. They raised 8 children, Horacio (Violet), Norma (Edgardo Amar), Emmanuel (Anabella), Anicia (Juanito Sta-Ana), Mauro III (Luzviminda), Manuel (Sylvia), Ramon (Cristina) and Eduardo (Veronica). She was preceded in death by her parents Tranquilino & Basilia Gravador, her husband Mauro, her eldest son Horacio, youngest son, Eduardo and daughter-in-law Anabella.

After immigrating to the US in 1979, Nena took pride in being the matriarch of the family and had a hand in raising her 23 grandchildren, who mostly lived within blocks of her in Albany Park. She always loved being surrounded by family. She showed unconditional love toward her 8 children, 23 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, but did not hesitate to show tough love when needed, which made us who we are today.

She was full of life. She had a laugh that was infectious, a smile that could light up any room and you certainly can’t forget her distinct, passionate voice. Her love of fashion and impeccable style made her the center of attention in a social setting. She was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan, she never missed an episode of ‘Days of Lives’ and was obsessed with Filipino dramas and game shows on TFC and GMAC. She shared her life experiences through her stories and loved her daily walks.

Her impact on our lives and everyone she came in contact with, will forever live on. Her light will be greatly missed.

As Lola would always say, “mahal na mahal ako ng manga anak ko, at mahal na mahal ako ng manga apo ko” (Translated: I am so very much loved by my children and  I am so very much loved by my grandchildren).
