Lilius Conklin
- December 27, 2020
Lilius Conklin (nee Scott) passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 17 in Barrington IL. Born August 20th, 1930 to James and Lilias Scott, the third of 6 children, she is predeceased by Nettie, Jean, James, and George. She is survived by her loving sister, Christine Arrigo.
Born and raised in Chicago, she married Richard C. Conklin in 1952. Two daughters followed, Christine (Larry Malmquist) and the late Barbara Jean Conklin. After moving with her family in the late 50’s to Palatine, Illinois, Lil pursued a career in education and earned her degree in 1970 at age 40. She taught fourth grade in Palatine School District 15 for 20 years at both Jane Addams and Marion Jordan in Inverness. She passed on her love of teaching to her elder daughter, Chris.
She and Dick enjoyed years of travel both locally and abroad. One of their favorite trips was to London where they were curbside to witness the marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Diana. New York was a favorite travel destination as well. After retirement Dick and Lil enjoyed wintering on Manasota Key in Englewood, Florida where they enjoyed walking the beach, golf, and tennis.
Family was everything to Lil. She relished in the company of her 3 grandchildren, Brian (fiancé Gina Berti), Carly (Daniel Scribner), and Nathan (Kathleen). We are saddened that she passed before the birth of her first great grandchild, a boy, in March of 2021.
Always dressed to the nines, Lil will be remembered by her dry wit, strong convictions, and the best eye roll around which she so generously passed on to her elder daughter as well as her granddaughter, Carly.
Due to the covid-19 pandemic, all services will be held privately. More info 847-359-8020 or www.smithcorcoran.com.
