Florence Norton

Florence Norton, 84 going on 30, of Palatine passed away February 15, 2022, in her home surrounded by family after a long, amazing, and heroic battle with cancer.

Florence enjoyed golf and bowling (but not necessarily her scores), thoroughly enjoyed the theater, had a love of traveling and adventure, believed in “no more cooking”, except, thankfully, for her pea soup, “best she ever made” turnips, Christmas cookies, snack mix and date nut bread, and had a passion for absolutely everything that ended in the word Casino.

She was always impeccable, was spunky in her words and, especially, her facial expressions, was unwavingly stubborn and strong to the core, and her smile and laugh never failed to light up a room.

Florence is survived by: Her three daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl & Bryant Hasten, Carthage, IL; her angel caregivers Daryle & Wil Cristobal, Palatine, IL; and Kris & Bill Granzow, Portage, IN. Her adored grandchildren Melissa Hasten, Hafid & Bridget Cristobal, Alex Cristobal & Olivia Sanchez, Mike & Shana Suthers, and Jeff & Tabatha Suthers. Great-grandchildren Ashley Hawkins, Araya Hasten, Ben Cristobal, Jacob Cristobal, Delaney Suthers and Alex Franz, who stole her heart despite her dislike for little children.

Her life was also filled with cousin, nieces and nephews, her children’s extended families who loved her like their own, and friends, including three very special friends that are forever family, her partners in crime, Beverly Hoehne, Risa Goch, Debbie Halsey and Dottie Jackson.

She was preceded by her husband, Thor Norton, and her mother, Centa Gordon.

She left an unfillable hole in the hearts of many and is loved more than words could ever say.

A visitation will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Hwy Palatine IL from 10:00am-1:00pm with a prayer service at 1:00pm. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. For more information please call 847-359-8020.
