With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Martha V. Taylor Chitty, who peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 30, 2025. Born on May 16, 1929, in Vidalia, Georgia, to the late Wylie and Mettie Ladson Taylor, she was raised in Moultrie, Georgia.
Martha is survived by her children: Linda Baillene, Steve (Lori) Chitty, Danny Chitty, Ronnie (LuAnn) Chitty, and her devoted daughter Debbie Chitty; ten beautiful grandchildren: James, Robbie, Jonathan, Brandon (Brita), Melissa (Freddie), Joshua (Christiana), Amanda (Michael), Danielle, Jessica (Joshua), and Charlie (Chrissy); and 13 beautiful great-grandchildren; also numerous nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67½ years, Lowell D. Chitty; her daughter, Darlene Hutchinson; her son-in-law, Bob Hutchinson, and her daughter-in-law, Susan Chitty.
Mrs. Chitty worked as a medical care assistant at Memorial Hospital and St. Jude Manor in Jacksonville, FL, and was also a dedicated homemaker. She and her husband later moved from Jacksonville to Satsuma, FL, to enjoy life along the St. Johns River.
Martha enjoyed attending a variety of plays, musicals, and concerts. She was a faithful member of her church family and enjoyed puzzle books and social gatherings with her family and many friends. She was known for her delicious strawberry no-bake cake, which was featured in a cookbook, and her homemade pecan pie. Martha was a kind, generous, and loving woman who brought joy to all who knew her. She was deeply loved and will be missed every single day.
A visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at First Baptist Church of San Mateo, with Pastor AJ Hatfield officiating. A luncheon will follow the service. Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Palatka Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to Watts Funeral Home, San Mateo, FL.
