G. James Dickhaut

Lancaster/Norwell – G. James Dickhaut, 96, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, May 30, 2025. He is reunited with his beloved wife of 50 years, Barbara G. (O’Toole) Dickhaut, and their son, David C. Dickhaut. He is survived by his children, Paul J. Dickhaut & his partner Charlotte Bittner, Ann C. Klein & husband Kevin; and James M. Dickhaut; 8 grandchildren, Ryan, Wesley, Cullen and Olivia Dickhaut, Jack, Lily, Lauren, and Thomas Klein; his sister Kathleen Brownworth; generations of nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends. He is pre-deceased by his brothers George, David, and Paul Dickhaut

Son of the late George & Kathleen (Broderick) Dickhaut, Jim was born and raised in Clinton and was a graduate of the Clinton High School, Class of 1947. He proudly served our nation in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant assigned to the 3338th Technical Training Squadron, who notably accomplished the first air to air refueling of the B-29 Bomber aircraft during combat in Korea. Jim returned home safely and accepted his call to vocation in religious life, serving as a member of the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance at the Holy Cross Abbey in Berryville, Virginia for nearly ten years. His devotion to faith, prayer and ministry would remain a constant source of strength throughout his lifetime.

After departing from religious life, Jim would reconnect with Barbara O’Toole, his high school sweetheart, whom he would marry and share in the blessing of life together as husband and wife, devoted parents, and proud grandparents. Jim and Barbara would raise their family in Lancaster, where they remained faithful parishioners of Immaculate Conception Parish and integral members of their community. Jim spent his professional career as a purchasing and collections agent for Marine Plastics and later Nortech in Clinton until retiring. In addition, he was a beloved member of the support staff at Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home for many years. Jim and Barbara dedicated themselves to helping raise their grandchildren and could always be found cheering from the stands at all of their sporting events and special activities. Jim will be forever missed and remembered lovingly as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM on Friday, June 13, 2025 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton, with burial to follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Lancaster. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton.
