William Walker, Jr.

William Curtis Walker Jr., affectionately known as Curtis, passed away on September 1, 2025, following an accident and subsequent illness. He was 78 years old.

Born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, Curtis spent his formative years in Georgia before attending Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi. There, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education and proudly played collegiate football. His early career was dedicated to teaching elementary school on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where he touched the lives of many young students.

Curtis later found his calling in the restaurant industry, becoming a well-known figure through his work with Morrison’s Cafeterias in Greenville and Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He also spent time with Piccadilly Cafeteria before launching his own beloved establishment, WCW’s Café in Hattiesburg. Known for its hearty blue-plate specials and unforgettable desserts, WCW’s Café became a local favorite and a reflection of Curtis’s passion for food and community.

A lifelong football enthusiast, Curtis was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Ole Miss Rebels. In his later years, he continued to serve his community by working at Walmart in Petal, first in the meat department and later as a friendly and familiar greeter.

Curtis had a deep love for travel, especially with his late wife, Ruby A. Walker. Together, they enjoyed countless adventures to New Orleans and annual trips to the Smoky Mountains, with cherished stops in Helen, Georgia and Lynchburg, Tennessee.

Curtis was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruby, his parents William and Elizabeth Walker, and his sister Kathleen Carlson. He is survived by his grandson William Adams, daughter-in-law Karen Adams, sisters Beth Slavin and Lisa Walker O’Neal, and several nieces and nephews who will carry forward his legacy of warmth, humor, and generosity.

A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held in honor of Curtis on October 4, 2025. Further details will be shared at a later date.

Curtis will be remembered for his kindness, his love of family and football, and the joy he brought to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
