Walter Gill

Sir Walter Abel Gill was born on February 3, 1964 in Topeka, Kansas to Jacqueline Gill and the late Dwayne Forbes.

Walter attended the Capper Foundation where he earned a diploma in 1975. He later attended Topeka West High School and graduated in 1985.

Although his life included cerebral palsy, he never allowed the condition to be an excuse for not living his life to the fullest! He was a force to be reckoned with! He was an advocate for individuals with disabilities when he spoke before the city council against their proposal to reduce the funding of transportation services essential for individuals with disabilities to live independently. He also participated in several bowling competitions with the Special Olympics, earning fourteen medals for his exceptional bowling skills.

Some of his favorite pastimes included listening to hard rock/heavy metal music, especially his favorite rock band, KISS. He also loved listening to AC/DC, Anthrax, White Snake, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, among others. His knowledge of heavy metal music was legendary. A Topeka native, Walter was a member of CHIEFS KINGDOM and a huge fan of the Kansas City Royals. He loved Harley Davidson and was a devoted member of Abate of Kansas District 4. Walter was a socialite, often hanging out with his friends for good times at bars, concerts, motorcycle events, or music festivals.

He is preceded in death by his father (Dwayne Forbes), grandparents (Abel and Elizabeth Carter), aunts (Patricia Maples and Carrie Maples), brother (James Andre Gill), and cousins (Stephanie, Shanique, Timothy, Jr. Chris, David Neal, and Shawn).

He leaves behind to cherish his memory: great aunts Betty, Earline, and Janet; great uncle David Gill, mother Jacqueline and step-father Leroy; aunt Joyce; siblings Alison, Anthony, Charise, Elise (Odom), and Denise; cousins: Kimberly, Stacie, Tonya, Ronald, Eric, Javonna, Angie; nieces and nephews Manuel, Lakea, Ulysee, James, Alesia, Tyson, Daniel (Vierge), David (Jocelyn), Brianna, LeTore, Xavier, six great-nephews, five great nieces, and a host of cousins and extended family.
