EVA MARIE VIAU, 98 of Escanaba, MI passed away on Wednesday July 2, 2025 at the Bishop Noa Home with her family by her side. Eva Marie Bastian was born on April 18, 1927 in Gladstone, MI to James and Vera (Glanville) Bastian. She married Leonard Porath in July of 1944 and they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 1999. Eva and Leonard lived and raised their 5 children in Hyde and Gladstone. In May of 2002, Eva married John Viau and lived in Bark River until his passing in 2006.

Throughout the years, Eva worked for Nagelkirks Fruit Market and Harnischfeger Corp. She was an active member of the Salvation Army where she taught Sunday School and Junior Soldier classes. Eva was a member and past secretary of the women’s group “Home League”, member of the “League of Mercy” and member of The Salvation Army String Band. She was also a charter member of the UP Steam & Gas Engine Club. Eva loved basketball, baseball, football and camping with her family and friends. She was known for her beautiful rugs and quilts.

Survivors include her 5 children: James (Gabrielle) Porath, Darlene Nelson, Dianne Connor, David (Peggy) Porath and Linda (David) LaMarch; step-children: Nancy (Dale) Sharkey, Raymond (Donna) Viau and Betty Viau; 12 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents: James and Vera; husbands: Leonard and John; 2 brothers and 1 sister.

In keeping with Eva’s wishes, no services will be held. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
