Frances Eileen Gathard, 98, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025. Frances was born on January 30, 1927, in Auburn, IL, to Frank and Josephine (Dillon) Brand. She married the love of her life, Robert J. Gathard, on February 16, 1957, and he survives.
She is also survived by her sons, John (Mary Nguyen) Gathard of St. Louis, MO and David Gathard of Divernon; grandchildren, Nicole Gathard of St. Louis, Robert D. (Lexie) Gathard of Springfield, Abigail Gathard of Divernon and Adam (significant other, Kaitlynn Whitaker of Mackinaw, IL) Gathard of Divernon; one great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, and great great-great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, great-great-nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Thomas Brand; and sister, Helen Turley.
Frances was a faithful member of Christ the King Church. Frances dedicated her life to being a mom and wife and loved being a homemaker for her family. She worked for Sangamo Electric and then retired at MCL.
She enjoyed being involved in many things. She was a member of the Legion of Mary. She was involved with the Christ the King prayer line and she also enjoyed being a teacher’s aide at Christ the King School. Frances was also a den mother for Cub Scouts.
Memorial Gathering: 11:00 am – 12:30 pm, Monday, July 21, 2025, at Christ the King Church.
Memorial Mass: 12:30 pm, Monday, July 21, 2025, at Christ the King Church with Reverend Mark Tracy officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Labre Indian School in Ashland, Montana or to Catholic Charities.
