Irma Lee Schmelz

Irma Lee Schmelz of Granbury, Texas passed away at age 86 on Friday, October 8th, 2021. She was born on March 18th, 1935 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Victor Lee Garnand and Jessie Sybil Thompson.

 

Irma graduated from Ardmore High School and Bethany Nazarene College with her Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education. She spent over 35 years as a second and third grade teacher. She was a devoted wife and mother and traveled the world alongside her husband who served in the United States Air Force, teaching in most locations they lived in. Together George and Irma served in many capacities such as spending their summers as missionaries traveling to many states, providing aid to different communities and were members of Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury, Texas for over 20 years. She enjoyed spending her time reading and being with her family and friends.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents Victor and Jessie Garnand, and her brother Victor Lynn Garnand. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, George Schmelz; their son, Randy Schmelz and wife Becky with their children John and Michael; daughter, Joy Kent with her daughter Sage; her siblings, Cathy Brunen and Roy “Buddy” Garnand and his wife Susie; and many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

 

A small gathering of friends and family will be held on October 17th from 3pm-5pm at Waterview The Point Independent Living 100 Watermark Blvd, Granbury, TX 76048. It will be come and go so if you would like to pay your respects you are welcome to come. Face coverings will be required.
